When visiting Beijing in winter, you should not miss a tour to appreciate the art of ice lantern in Longqing Gorge.

Although the theme of Longqing Gorge Ice Lantern Festival may vary every year, the marvelous ice waterfall cascading down the dam of reservoir has been kept to impress tourists. Tens of meters in height, the ice waterfall is decorated with ice flowers and icicles, which delivers a better visual experience at night to tourists. The venue for Longqing Gorge Ice Lantern Festival is divided into indoor exhibition area and outdoor exhibition area. The artistic ice sculptures can be found everywhere with different themes including mythological stories, ancient legends and also realistic miniature replica buildings.         

The opening ceremony of the 36th Longqing Gorge Ice Lantern Festival is scheduled to take place in mid-January of 2022. Advanced laser projection equipment, together with aerial photography by drones will be used in Longqing Gorge Scenic Area to light up the mountain with a size of 5,000 square meters. Besides, over 350 pieces of ice and snow works, more than 300 ice sculptures and 8 groups of snow sculptures including "Bing Dwen Dwen" and "Shuey Rhon Rhon" (mascots of Beijing 2022 Games), Alpine Skiing, and Olympic Torch will be displayed.
