BMF - Music at Noon Concert Series No.3 - A Dream in the Forest Yang Xuefei Celebrates Piazzolla and Latin American Guitar Classics

13:00-14:00 | Saturday | Oct 16

Among the many master composers to be commemorated in 2021, Astor Piazzolla, the Argentinian famous for tango, seems to attract less attention. However, celebrating diversity, the BMF commemorates his 100th birthday with a unique classical guitar performance.

In a career spanning half a century, Piazzolla upgraded the tango from popular dance music of carnal pleasure to art music allowed in concert halls. When his "Tango Nuevo" swept the world, he also recorded the development of the genre in The History of Tango. Originally for flute and guitar, it is performed in this concert with the clarinet replacing the flute, featuring Wang Tao, a clarinetist known for his rich experience in pop music.

Music for classical guitar flourishes in South America, where life is always exuberant. In the performance, Yang Xuefei, a world-famous classical guitarist, presents a variety of classical guitar works, including the wellknown Un Sueño En La Floresta by the Paraguayan composer Barrios, and some works with dazzlingly difficult technique, such as Suite Del Recuerdo by José Luis Merlin. The performance vividly demonstrates the unique charm of guitar and South American music.
