At Beijing International Youth Innovation and Development Forum launched on May 26, Beijing Institute of Talent Development Strategy and Guanghua School of Management at Peking University together unveiled the Global City Talent Retention Index (2022) (hereinafter referred to as the Index). The Index reveals that Beijing's overall score ranks 6th among that of global cities, securing its position as the top-ranked city in China for three consecutive years.

The concept of "city talent retention" epitomizes the interplay between talent and cities, encompassing a holistic evaluation from six aspects, namely economic foundation, innovation potential, cultural openness, ecological well-being, social welfare and public life.

The Index meticulously assesses the talent attraction and retention capabilities of 102 global cities, comprising 39 Chinese cities and 63 cities in other countries. It serves as a vital reference and guide for optimizing the orientation of innovation in cities, harnessing the potential of platform-based services, and augmenting the influx of international talent.

Beijing secures an impressive sixth position among global cities with its overall score, maintaining its prestigious status as China's top-ranked city for three consecutive years. The city's success is attributed primarily to its robust strength in scientific and technological innovation. Notably, Beijing stands among the world's leading cities in two key indicators: the intensity of investment into the city's research and development sector, and the number of unicorn enterprises. In recent years, the city has consistently allocated over 6 percent of its regional GDP towards research and development expenditure, resulting in its position at the forefront of global cities. This sustained investment has provided a reliably sustainable source of funding for young, talented individuals engaging in scientific and technological innovation.
