After 15 days of selections, the 17 outstanding film projects shortlisted for the final round road show of the Project Pitches of the 11th Beijing International Film Festival (BJIFF) have rolled out, including 10 pitching projects and 7 WIP projects.

Due to the delay of the 11th BJIFF, upon agreement by the jury members, Ciao that started shooting in late June was adjusted from a pitching project to a WIP project.

The other 10 outstanding pitching projects and 4 outstanding WIP projects will appear in the final round negotiations of the Project Pitches of the 11th BJIFF-Beijing Film Market.

The second round selection jury of the Project Pitches is made up of three renowned filmmakers: director and screenwriter Yao Tingting; screenwriter Yang Weiwei; and Jiang Wei, a producer and President of Wuyuan Wanxiang Pictures.

In the interview session, the three jury members listened to 40 project owners' descriptions of creation, thought in their shoes, considered and discussed from dimensions such as type of creation, script creation, operability and professional degree of team, offered valuable opinions on the script creation and project operation of the pitching projects, and made suggestions on the post production and film promotion and distribution of the WIP projects, so as to benefit the project owners greatly.

"We must make clear the type of our works and tell one thing only in a single film rather than putting everything you wanna express in a 120-minute film," said Yao Tingting. She is a renowned director with years of experience in filmmaking, offered incisive advice on the general direction of a film from the perspective of a director. Also a young filmmaker, she understood ideas of project owners and helped them explore all possibilities of project development.

"First, a film should have a clear and complete script, lively and interesting characters, as well as a clear topic, conception and expression," said Yang Weiwei. She is a screenwriter, is adept at emotion capture and character portrayal. During communicating with the project owners, she analyzed the projects at the levels of script logic and story & figure development, and offered pertinent appraisal.

"Young filmmakers should not only love the film, but also take it as a job and an industry," said Jiang Wei. In the interviews, Jiang Wei, a producer and President of Wuyuan Wanxiang Pictures, offered practical suggestions on project operation from the market perspective, to help the project owners better tap their market potential.

The top 10 pitching projects and the top 7 WIP projects shortlisted will be trained by two senior instructors on August 12 before competing for the four awards for pitching projects and the two awards for WIP projects at the final round road show of the Project Pitches of the Beijing Film Market on August 16. The winning projects will stand the chance of contending for the International Promotion Award and be sent abroad for study and exchange.
