With the advent of the May Day holiday, the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) gives health reminders via its official WeChat account.

Currently, the severe overseas pandemic imposes high infection risks for outbound travelers. According to local pandemic prevention and control policies, incoming passengers must provide strict certificates of Negative Nucleic Acid and Antibody Blood Tests (IgM) results, and need to receive 14 days of centralized quarantine and observation, plus follow-up health tracking. For this reason, individuals are advised to be prudent about cross-border travels by fully weighing the timing and necessity against potential risks.

In China, only Ruili City, Dehong Prefecture of Yunnan Province is classified as a high and medium-risk region, and passengers are advised not to go there unless necessary. Risk level of the COVID-19 pandemic in different regions of China can be accessed via the website (http://bmfw.www.gov.cn/yqfxdjcx/risk.html), the mobile app  or the WeChat mini-program of the State Council for real-time enquiry.

During the holiday period, individuals are advised to strengthen self-protection by continuously wearing the mask, keeping social distance, and maintaining personal hygiene, and bear in mind the reiterated five essentials to wear mask, keep social distance, cover mouth when coughing or sneezing, wash hands frequently, and open windows. In addition, it is not recommended to stay in crowds, airtight spaces, or poorly ventilated places.

During the journey, travelers to take aircraft, train, bus, or ship, etc. should follow orders and requirements of the crew members, wear mask all the way, keep hands clean, and save bills for follow-up enquiry. In case of symptoms (like headache, fatigue, weakness, decline or loss of smell and taste, dry cough, or fever) during the journey, measures should be taken properly to prevent infecting others, while persons with such symptoms shall seek medical help from nearby medical institutions, and cancel or halt the journey.

Upon return from the journey, a 14-day self-observation period will be necessary, while persons with onset of suspicious symptoms shall take measures to prevent infecting others, seek medical help in time, and take the initiative to tell the doctor about the travel history.

Vaccinations should also be arranged properly during the holiday period. The second shot, in particular, should be completed between three and eight weeks after the first shot is received, not to affect the inoculation of the second shot due to travels.
