For the purpose of this design week, block expansion and operations are designed around the development goals of “New Design, New Scene, New Consumption and New Life”. By sharing block design-driven industrial upgrading and urban renewal, current issues in art-oriented urban design are extended to explore fashion design lifestyles and define new block designs in an iterative manner. Block activities will be steered in the form of a “wall-less art museum”. It is planned to launch the “Fashion Consumption” at Wangjing Street with the help of Beijing Institute of FashionTechnology (BIFT) and Vanke Times Center at Wangjing; carry out the “Art-oriented Urban Design” at InStreet Phoenix Galleria Mall, so as to
build a block design brand and form branding trends.
NEEDART Art Center
Based on case studies on China’s current urbanization and urban renewal, actively explore and test the public art construction mode that is suitable for China’s urban development by investigating and studying foreign public art projects and urban construction cases as a reference, persist in activating urban public spaces with artistic thinking and urban design, optimize urban public space quality, and shape the core spirit and cultural character of the city. The event includes speeches by academic hosts, keynote speeches by guests, block design excellence award, and BIFT Design Day.

The development of blocks is related to people’s livelihood. Art-oriented block renovation and renewal is one of the major features of “walking out of exhibition and into blocks” in this Beijing Design Week. Block activities are carried out in the form of a “wall-free art museum”. Through numerous installations and design forum “Block Design Co-construction”, they narrate new stories of “New Design, New Scene, New Consumption and New Life” in Beijing, realize space and environment aesthetics, and stimulate the passion for urban design. The event includes block design excellence award, release of artists’ new works, keynote speeches by guests, and exhibition of installation artworks.
