If you are an applicant who has been holding the post of professor or associate professor or enjoying an equal treatment in a key institute of higher learning in Beijing for at least four consecutive years upon application and prior to the date of application, with a cumulative period of residence in China no less than three cumulative years within the four years and with a good tax paying record, then you can apply for permanent residence permit by following the steps below.

► 2 recently taken, white background, bareheaded, and front-facing 2-inch color photos as well as an digital photo (submitted by CD).

► A photocopy of the applicant's valid foreign passport and work-type residence permits he/she continuously applied for in Beijing in the past 4 years.

► Statement showing  no criminal record in foreign countries.

► A photocopy of the physical examination certificate issued by the health and quarantine department designated by the Chinese government or by a foreign medical institution certified by the Chinese embassy or consulate in that country (the exit-entry health and quarantine department designated in Beijing is the Beijing International Travel Health Care Center, and the certificate shall be issued within 6 months prior to the date of acceptance of this application).

► An employment certificate. A certificate issued by the employer on the applicant holding the post of associate professor, associate researcher or above or enjoying an equal treatment for at least 4 years.

► A photocopy of individual tax payment certificate issued by the tax authority. The tax payment period shall be 4 consecutive years prior to the date of application.

► A photocopy of the Legal Person Certificate for a Public Institution of the employer.

► If the institution of higher learning the applicant works for is approved as a member of the 211 Project or of Beijing's first batch of institutions for the admission and enrolment of undergraduate students, a photocopy of the approval document shall be provided.

► A photocopy of the Foreigner's Work Permit, the Alien Employment Permit or the Foreign Expert Certificate. Their validity period shall be 4 consecutive years prior to the date of application. The information on employer, position and personal details shall be consistent with those indicated on the employment certificate and other relevant certificates.

► An applicant who has previously held Chinese citizenship shall provide the photocopy of the certificate of eligibility for foreign settlement, the naturalization paper or the household certificate transcript, and the Chinese passport used for naturalization.

► The applicant's resume (from the age of 18 till now, the year and month shall be consecutive).

· Certificates issued by relevant foreign institutions shall be certified by the Chinese embassy or consulate in that country.

· Materials in foreign language must be translated into Chinese, and the translation company's official seal shall be affixed to the translation.

· The original shall be reviewed before submitting a photocopy, and the photocopy shall be of A4 size.

· If the applicant needs to print his/her Chinese name on the "Foreign Permanent Resident ID Card", he/she shall clearly indicate in the "Other Matters to be Explained" column on the application form.

· An applicant who has not canceled his/her household registration in China shall apply only after canceling the household registration.
