Postexposure vaccination. People who are bitten or scratched by, or whose wounds or mucous membranes come in contact with the saliva of animals that may carry rabies, such as dogs, cats, foxes, wolves, skunks, raccoons, and vampire bats, shall get vaccinated.
Preexposure vaccination. Personnel who work in infected areas with a high risk of being bitten or getting exposed to the rabies virus, such as veterinarians in infected areas, animal keepers, staff responsible for husbandry or slaughtering, rabies virus researchers, vaccine producers, medical staff taking care of patients with rabies, staff who work in caves, people who are frequently exposed to mammals, children at seriously infected areas, postmen, and travelers going to infected areas shall receive preexposure vaccination for rabies.

If you are bitten by a dog, please keep calm and follow the instructions below:
1. Wrap elastic tape around the wounded body part, five centimeters on both sides of the wound. Squeeze out contaminated blood to prevent virus from spreading.

2. Do not sew up or dress the wound unless there is excessive bleeding.

3. Rinse the wound with soap and clean water for at least 30 minutes.

4. Apply some iodine or alcohol to disinfect the wound and kill all or part of the viruses.

5. Get a rabies vaccination as soon as possible at a disease prevention and control department. You will get a total of five doses, of which the last four shall be taken on the 3rd, 7th, 14th, and 28th day after the first dose. Remember to complete the vaccination within one month.
