On March 26, Steve Dainton, CEO of the International Table Tennis Federation Group and Director of the World Table Tennis (WTT), announced in Beijing that Beijing has been awarded the hosting right for the WTT China Smash. The event will take place from September 26 to October 6 at Shougang Park. This is a significant milestone for Beijing as the city will host once again a top international table tennis event following the successfully concluded World Table Tennis Championships in 1961.

After the successful hosting of the 2022 Winter Olympic Games, Beijing has been actively promoting brand sports events. The attendance rates for the top five international winter sports events at the end of last year were all above 90 percent. In 2024, besides improving the quality of its brand events such as the China Open (a tennis tournament) and Beijing Marathon, Beijing will also host several international events, including the WTT China Smash and the World Aquatics Artistic Swimming World Cup 2024.
