On March 25, Zhongguancun Comprehensive Bonded Zone (hereinafter referred to as the "Zone") passed the pre-acceptance inspection for independent customs operations. This signifies that China's first comprehensive bonded zone dedicated to "research and development innovation" has taken a solid step towards its official customs operations in April.

Located in Wenquan Town, Haidian District, the Zone, as a comprehensive bonded zone, benefits from the influences of the Integrated National Demonstration Zone for Opening up the Services Sector, the China (Beijing) Free Trade Zone, Zhongguancun National Independent Innovation Demonstration Zone. It prioritizes strategic emerging industries and future industries, and emphasizes industrial innovation through technological innovation. The Zone's business spectrum follows a "2+2+N" model. It is centered around two industries, namely those of integrated circuits and pharmaceuticals, with a focus on another two sectors, namely those of artificial intelligence and technology services. Additionally, it aims to expand bonded service formats, including headquarters economy, cross-border e-commerce, financial leasing, etc.

Currently, the external integrated service building, customs inspection area, warehouses, and other facilities involved in the inspection have been completed, meeting the pre-acceptance inspection criteria. The Zone's industrial space for the first phase, which covers an area of 100,000 square meters, will be used for the main building for innovative research and development.  Currently, the installation of internal mechanical and electrical facilities of the initial phase is underway, which is expected to be finalized by July 2024. The building will mainly house public experimental platforms and information service centers for enterprises from the integrated circuits, pharmaceuticals, artificial intelligence, and other sectors.
