From July 11 to 12, the 7th World Metropolitan Transport Development Forum took place in Beijing.
It is learned from the forum that, as of now, Beijing's operational railway mileage has totaled 1,172 kilometers, ranking first in China, with rail transit lines having achieved full coverage of key functional areas in the capital city. In addition, a greener transport network has emerged, as evidenced by a green travel ratio of 73.4 percent in Beijing in 2022. The city is also placing more emphasis on optimizing existing rail networks rather than new transit lines. Next, Beijing will beef up its efforts on the construction of Beijing's transport network which serves as the backbone for urban functional expansion. Consequently, more urban constructions are expected to take place along rail transit routes, to proceed with the urban development guided by rail.
Furthermore, the dual-carbon goals also entail new requirements for the development of green transportation. As reported, the implementation plan for the carbon peak in the transport sector in Beijing has been completed and will be announced in the near future. According to the plan, the transport sector in Beijing is expected to achieve its carbon peak before 2030. After that, the sector will witness a continuous decline in carbon emissions.
