Beijing Carbon Neutrality Society Launched, Boosting Beijing's Carbon Peaking and Carbon Neutrality Efforts

The Beijing Carbon Neutrality Society (BCNS) was officially launched on April 6, during the Beijing Science and Technology Innovation - Carbon Neutrality Promotion Conference. The BCNS will make use of Beijing's scientific and technological resources, pooling expert wisdom to effectively promote the integration of governments, industries, universities, research institutions, finance, intermediary services, and applications, helping Beijing take the lead in achieving the goals of carbon peaking and carbon neutrality.

The honorary chairmen of the BCNS are Du Xiangwan, an academician with the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE) and former CAE Vice President, and Ni Weidou, another academician of the CAE and former Vice President of Tsinghua University. Jiang Fan, Party Secretary of the CPC Committee and Chairman of Beijing Energy Holding Co., Ltd., serves as Chairman of the BCNS, and has said that the BCNS will fully leverage the strengths of scientific and technological talents, breaking new ground in its work and striving to become a high-level innovation platform with international influence in the field of carbon neutrality. It aims to be a first-class organization based in the Chinese capital.

"The founding of the BCNS is of great significance, as it will boost Beijing's efforts to take the lead in achieving the goals of carbon peaking and carbon neutrality, playing a leading and exemplary role," said Zeng Jin, Party Secretary of the CPC Committee and Director of the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of People's Government of Beijing Municipality. He noted that enterprises administered by the commission should take the founding of the BCNS as an opportunity to promote collaborative innovation and integrated development of traditional industries and emerging industries, and effectively enhance market competitiveness and overall capabilities.

Shen Jie, Secretary of the Leading Party Members' Group of the Beijing Association for Science and Technology (BAST) and Executive Vice President of the BAST, said that the founding of the BCNS promotes the connection among innovation chain, talent chain, and industrial chain, improves interdisciplinary development and advances the research, development and promotion of technological products. The BAST will carry out international academic exchanges with a focus on cutting-edge areas of research, working to promote the transformation of scientific and technological achievements in the field of carbon peaking and carbon neutrality, and contribute its wisdom and strength to promote the green transformation of economic and social development across the board.
