The Information Office of the People's Government of Beijing Municipality announced on March 20 that Beijing is actively facilitating the construction and development of the eastern area of Changping New Town, aiming to create a new consumption landmark in northern Beijing that provides more choices and convenience for citizens.

Located in the northwest of Beijing, Changping district aims to develop into a "new town in the flatland", which is a key part of urban development in the city. The eastern area of Changping New Town is part of Nanshao Town, Changping District, with a total area of 13.7 square kilometers, a planned construction land area of 11 square kilometers, and a planned population of 120,000. It will be a key area for the realization of Changping District's planned functions and the support and service for the capital's functions. The Changping New Town will also be a strategic gateway for coordinated regional development.

Since 2022, Changping District has made positive progress towards building a new and influential consumption landmark in northern Beijing, coordinating and advancing large amounts of planning, development, and construction work. The eastern area of Changping New Town aims to create a demonstration zone for experiential consumption, a livable and model urban area with a gorgeous landscape, a high-level comprehensive service area, and a smart industry research and innovation park in northern Beijing. At present, the requisition and demolition work has been essentially completed in the areas to be developed, and corresponding land plots are qualified for transactions. Preliminary work is underway in the central urban complex plots, while civil livelihood projects are also actively implemented. Primary and secondary schools affiliated with Tsinghua University have been officially opened, and a grade A tertiary hospital will be introduced in 2023.

The construction and development of the eastern part of Changping New Town is an important task for Beijing to develop into an international consumption hub. The planned construction of a super-large commercial leading area of nearly 1.2 million square meters will create the largest "Mall+block" consumption complex in Beijing, integrating ecological resources and forming a slow-moving system of commercial streets, aerial platforms, and waterfront trails through a landscape axis and four waterfront corridors. The development will create the first landmark of waterfront commercial consumption featuring the integration of water and the town in northern Beijing.

Construction and development of the eastern area of Changping New Town are planned to take place mainly from 2021 to the end of 2023, and the area's urban functions should be basically perfected by the end of 2025. By the end of 2030, a new, modern city hub will be preliminarily established.
