On the evening of December 31, 2021 when the New Year’s bell rings for 2022, the victory ceremonies elements for Beijing 2022 Games were officially released. The VC elements released include the podium, the tray, the tray stands/tables, the customized version of mascot gifts for medallist, the VC bouquet and the VC costumes.
The victory ceremony is a highlight moment for medallist in the Olympic Games, and it is the best way to express congratulations and respect to them. The victory ceremony of the Beijing 2022 Games is based on the theme of "Ice and Snow, Glory and Honor". VC elements are combined with shining medals, cheering for the outstanding performance of those ice and snow athletes, paying a tribute to their fighting spirit, and at the same time showing the unique charm of Chinese etiquette culture.
Podium
The podium takes the "Sky Blue" as the main color from the color system of Beijing 2022 Games , using core graphics combined with ice and snow lines. The overall image is simple and generous. The body is made of recyclable and environmentally friendly materials. The honeycomb-shaped inner core increases the load-bearing capacity while reducing its own weight. The surface is covered with low-temperature, anti-skid soft pads to meet the requirements of ice and snow events. At the same time, assembled modular is adopted, which can be quickly moved and assembled to meet the needs of rapid conversion from individual events to multi-individual events. The appearance design of the Paralympic Winter Games is consistent with that of the Winter Olympics. In order to meet the needs of disabled athletes, a barrier-free ramp has been added.
Tray Stands/Tables
The tray stands/tables will be placed at FOP in advance before victory ceremonies by staffs with medals and gifts on it for presenters’ use. There are two types of stands/tables-large size and small size, which are used for multi-individual events and individual events respectively. The surface adopts "Sky Blue" and "Beijing 2022" image, which is suitable for the Winter Olympics and Paralympics. The outer cover of the large platform is made of highly elastic and breathable knitted fabric. The stands/tables of both sizes have been designed with counterweights to fully consider the safety of the outdoor stadium under strong wind environment.
Tray
The shape resembles an open-page book, implying a new chapter of Chinese culture and friendship to various countries through Beijing 2022 Games. The edge of the tray adopts a blue and white gradient design, presenting a oriental aesthetic conception of dyeing, symbolizing the integration of Chinese culture and international culture, and embodying China's mind of open, friendship, peace, and toleration. The tray is made of environmentally friendly materials, and the surface is padded with a non-slip silicone pad to effectively prevent the medals and gifts from slipping off.
Customized Version of Mascot Gifts
The customized version of mascot gift is a prop awarded to the medallist at the venue ceremony held in competition venues. The overall design is based on image of Bing Dwen Dwen and Shuey Rhon Rhon, the mascots of Beijing 2022 Games. It is supplemented by a wreath woven of pine, bamboo and plum, forming an exclusive customized gift for medallist. The pine, bamboo and plum, known as the "Three Friends of the Cold", symbolize tenacity, vigorous vitality, and expresse praise, respect and good wishes to the medallist. The shape is made of golden PU filled cotton, which is soft and warm, also easy to hold.
VC Bouquets
In order to practice the concept of frugal and sustainable concept of the Olympic Games, the hand-knitted bouquets will be victory ceremony bouquets in Beijing 2022 Games, which will be presented to medallist with medals in the victory ceremonies. The cashmere bouquet not only retains the shape of the real bouquet in the Olympic victory ceremony, but also implements the concept of sustainability. It implies warmth and harmony. It can be preserved forever and become "the everlasting Olympic flower " .
The bouquets for the Winter Olympics include 6 types of flowers including rose, Chinese rose, lily of the valley, hydrangea, laurel and olive, which symbolize friendship, tenacity, happiness, unity, victory and peace respectively. The blue of the ribbon is from the color system of Beijing 2022 Games, which highlights the elements of ice and snow sports. Of the ribbon of Paralympic Winter Games, a blue coreopsis is added to the bouquets, which symbolizes strength. The bouquet ribbon is yellow from the color system, with vigorous and active meaning.
Victory Ceremony costumes
There are three sets of clothing, which are "Lucky Snow and Cloud", "Great Landscape" and "Flying Snow in Tang Dynasty".
The design of "Lucky Snow and Cloud" is based on two Chinese traditional auspicious symbols of "Snow" and "Clouds". The colors are sky blue and sunlight red, combining with traditional Chinese cross-collar right gussets and jackets with modern clothing. While refining the core graphic elements of Beijing 2022 Games, the technique of "Gold-Blue-Green Landscape Paintings" in traditional Chinese painting is transformed into the form of embroidery. The dress shows the Chinese charm with modern and simple techniques. It will be shown in all competition venues of snow events during the Game.
The design of "Great Landscape" is inspired by a famous Chinese painting "A Thousand Miles of Mountains and Rivers", using the expression techniques of landscapes in Chinese painting, which combines traditional Chinese landscape images of mountain shadows with core graphics of Beijing 2022 Games. It mixes classic and modern. Blue and whitelandscape on the clothing achieves a simple, elegant, fresh and smooth visual appearance. It will be shown in all competition venues of ice events during the Games.
The design of the "Flying Snow in Tang Dynasty" series is inspired by Chinese traditional fabrics of Tang Dynasty, with refined flower patterns and snowflake patterns, combined with the light patterns in the core graphics of Beijing 2022 Games. It is rich in spirit of Han and Tang dynasties. It also shows the spirit of the “Time”, meaning openness of the heart to welcome all countries in the world to participate in the event. It will be shows in medals plaza during the Games.
The three series of VC costumes are divided into escort costumes and tray-bearer costumes, which are distinguished by blue and red respectively. Each set of clothing includes jackets, hats, gloves, non-slip boots, self-heating thermal underwear and other sets.
In accordance with the requirements of “simple, safe, and exciting”, the overall design of VC elements embodies four characteristics:
1. The appearance is simple and decent, making full use of the core graphics, color system, mascots and other visual elements of Beijing 2022 Games, with integration of the characteristics of Chinese culture. They combine the spirit of the Winter Olympics with Chinese culture, and imply with the overall game landscape.
2. The function is warm and practical, with fully consideration of the characteristics and actual needs of victory ceremony of the Winter Olympics. From the convenient operation for staffs in the venue victory ceremony and the experience of medallist as starting point, it strives to meet the actual usage requirement of victory ceremony in the shortest time.
3. The materials are environmentally friendly and sustainable. The choice of materials meets the core requirements of environmental protection and sustainability, paying attention to the concept of running the Olympics in a green and frugal manner, and conveying the Olympic heritage as well as the concept of sustainability.
4. Multiple parties participate in sharing. The appearance design of the podium and the tray are made by Dongdao Creative Branding Group Co., Ltd., which is the official supplier of the image and look of Beijing 2022 Games. The VC bouquets were designed by HYX (Group) Co., Ltd., the official sponsor of Beijing 2022 Games, and were hand-knitted by hundreds of Chinese handicrafts and dozens of disabled handicrafts. The design proposals of VC costume were achieved through public solicitation from the society. After preliminary review, review, in-depth modification, sample production and final review, the final design was determined. The designers are from the Central Academy of Fine Arts and Beijing Institute of Fashion Technology. The production of the costums will be delivered by Beijing Beiao Group Co., Ltd., the official VC and SPP sponsor of Beijing 2022 Games . It reflects the enthusiasm of all social parties and the public to engagement on Beijing 2022 Games and the respect for athletes from all over the world.
