Seven Subway Line Sections in Beijing to Open by End of 2021

Beijing will open a number of new subway line sections by the end of 2021, which marks the most metro openings in recent years. These sections comprise of brand new subway lines, and extensions of current ones. There are 3 brand new lines including the west section of Line 11, phase I of Line 19 and the south section of Line 17, while 3 remaining sections will be opened soon after extensions including Line 8, Line 14 and Line S1. The Capital Airport Express will be extended westwards.

The west section of Line 11 (Moshikou Station - Shougang Station) is 4 kilometers long, having 4 stations. Transferring to Line 6 and S1 will be  available at Jin’an Qiao Station and transferring to the planned Line R1 will be available at Shougang Station. The west section of this Line 11 will have 4 type-A cabins with a speed of 100 km/h. As the branch line for Beijing 2022, this line boasts abundant and vibrant elements of the Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games in its stations and cabins.

Phase I of Line 19 increases speed by 50%

Line 19 runs north-south through the center of Beijing, with a length of 22.4 kilometers and 10 stations. Excluding Xinfadi and Niujie Stations, the other 8 are transfer stations that can transfer to other major lines including Lines 2, 6, and 10. Particularly, transferring to the Daxing International Airport Line is available at Caoqiao Station. Having a high capacity and speed, the capacity of Line 19 increases by 60% and its speed by 50%. Moreover, it will only take 15 minutes to travel from Xingong to Jinrongjie, 18 minutes less than taking Line 4-Daxing Line, and it is expected to divert 10% of passengers from the south section of Line 4-Daxing Line. Meanwhile, 30 minutes will be saved to travel from Mudanyuan to Caoqiao.

South section of Line 17 runs from Yizhuang to the East Third Ring without transfers

Line 17, located in the eastern area, is a major line that runs through the north and south. The south section (Shilihe Station to Yizhuang Station South) which will be operational by the end of 2021, has 7 stations with a length of 16.5 kilometers. Transferring to the Yizhuang Line is available at Ciqu Station and transferring to Line 10 and Line 14 is available at Shilihe Station. Also being one of the lines with the highest capacity in the subway network, Line 17 has 8 type-A cabins and its operation is fully automatic with a top speed of 100 km/h.  After its opening, 10 minutes will be saved when commuting from Ciqu to Shilihe.

Remaining section of Line 8 connects Qianmen to Wangfujing Street

The remaining section of Line 8 will open with 3 stations. Passengers can visit commercial tourism sites such as Qianmen and Wangfujing Street without transferring.

Remaining section of Line 14 gives passengers more destination options

The remaining section of Line 14 has 5 stations with a length of 4 kilometers, connecting the east and west sections of the line. Line 14 is a major subway line that runs through the east and south of Beijing, shaped like the letter “L” and contributing to the development of Lize Financial Business District. In addition, there’s a new route to the west and north regions of the city for passengers who enters or departs from Beijing by the Beijing South Railway Station. Passengers can transfer using both the clockwise and anti-clockwise loops of Line 10 at Xiju Station.

Remaining section of Line S1 will enable transfer to Line 6 at Pingguoyuan

The remaining section of Line S1 has 1 station, which is Pingguoyuan Station, with a length of 1.2 kilometers. Transferring between Line S1 and Line 6 will be available at  Pingguoyuan Station.

West Extension of Capital Airport Express (line) makes airport available from Beixinqiao Station without transferring 

The Capital Airport Express is extended westwards from Dongzhimen Station to Beixinqiao Station with a length of 1.9 kilometers. Transferring to Line 5 will be available after opening.
