Visitors need to make a reservation before they visit the Tiananmen Square starting from 15th. Dec. This new rule applies to both individual visitors and tourist groups. The purpose is to create a good environment and order for visitors traveling to Tiananmen Square. It’s also a new trend to make reservations ahead of time in the tourist market in China, which can help improve the services for tourists. It also helps the prevention against the COVID-19 pandemic.

Visitors can make a reservation for the visits in the following 10 days through the WeChat mini-programs like 'Tiananmen Square Reservation Service' and 'Jingchengzhiyue', and the applications such as 'Beijing Tong', "Beijing Daily", BRTV. Or log onto the ‘Tiananmen Square Reservation Service Section’ on the official website of Tiananmen Management Committee (http://yuyue.tamgw.beijing.gov.cn). The elderly, elementary and middle school students, and the disabled who have challenges in using smart terminals can make reservations with the help from their relatives and friends, or look for help from the staff on-duty there.

Reservations are available for four time-slots including the flag raising period(4-6AM depending on the sunrise time), morning, afternoon, and flag lowering period(6-7PM depending on the sunset time) each day. There is no limit on the total number of visitors at this stage after the policy of visiting by reservation takes effect, but necessary measures to control the visiting flow will be adopted accordingly based on the changing situation of the pandemic and prevention work. It should be noted that reservations do not exempt visitors from security checks, and visitors still need to go through security checks before entering the square.

(1) Visitors who have made reservations to visit the following places at the Tiananmen Square just need to show their reservation record on mobile phones to the staff on-site. And those places include Tiananmen Gate Tower (temporarily not open to the public now), Chairman Mao Memorial Hall, National Museum of China, The Palace Museum, Beijing Zhongshan Park, and Beijing Workers’ Cultural Palace

(2) Reservation of individuals: A maximum of 7 people can get registered on one reservation page, which has simplified the reservation process.

(3) Reservation of tour groups: The travel agency should make the reservation on behalf of the travelers in the traveling group. There is no need for the individual in that traveling group to make a duplicated reservation.

(4) The seniors, the minors including the elementary and middle school students, and people with physical challenges who find it hard to make reservations by using the digital gadgets can ask help from their friends and family members, or they can get help from the staff members on-site.
