This year Beijing will actively and steadily make preparations for key events in 2021 such as the Beijing Marathon through studied assessments of the pandemic and strengthened prevention and control measures, with the aim of developing Beijing into a national center for international exchanges.

Beijing will continue to promote the upgrading of the China Open this year, and cooperate with testing program preparations for the Beijing 2022 Olympics and Paralympic Winter Games. The city will also be preparing for the Asian Football Confederation Asian Cup Beijing Division and accelerating renovation work on the Beijing Workers' Stadium.

Sporting event information management systems will be optimized to explore diverse supervision methods for different events and improve the efficiency and effectiveness of service management. In addition, referees will be recommended to participate in major events, both at home and abroad, to further improve the overall level of their work.

Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the China Open, Beijing Marathon and other high-level sporting events originally planned to be held in Beijing in 2020 were canceled.
