On November 22, the 2nd Beijing International Canal Arts Festival commenced. Since 2018, the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Culture and Tourism has leveraged canals as a medium and the Beijing International Canal Arts Festival as a platform to deepen exchanges and cooperation with relevant countries and regions around the world, showcasing Beijing's wisdom in canal protection, inheritance and utilization to the world.

Stretching 3,200 kilometers, the Grand Canal of China is currently the longest and largest canal in the world. The 82-kilometer-long Beijing section of the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal is an important part of the protection, inheritance and utilization of the Grand Canal Cultural Belt.

The arts festival invited guests associated with famous canals across the world and cities along such canals, including the Xochimilco canals in Mexico, the Grand Canal of Venice in Italy, the Dortmund-Ems Canal in Germany and the Suez Canal in Egypt. Some provinces and cities along the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal also took part in the event.

Online activities of the arts festival will be accessible on the "Beijing Time" platform and the official website of Beijing Overseas Cultural Exchanges Center from December 5th to 11th, and will also be broadcast on a number of Chinese and foreign media platforms.
