Manufacturing Demonstrative Single Champion Enterprises, Manufacturing Single Champion Product Enterprises, Manufacturing Single Champion Cultivation Enterprises, Foreign-funded Hidden Champion Enterprises, Beijing "Hardcore Technology" Innovative Small, Medium and Micro-sized Enterprises, and Small and Micro-sized Enterprises of Beijing's Top 10 High-end, Precision, and Advanced Industries.

- Falling into the support scope of the Administrative Measures of Beijing Municipality for Intellectual Property Insurance Pilot Program;
- Legally operated, neither committing to no law violations in the past two years, nor being listed for dishonesty by CreditChina.
- Pilot Single Champion Enterprises refer to single champion enterprises that have been identified by relevant departments of the government or foreign-funded "hidden champion" enterprises that meet relevant requirements.
- Pilot Small, Medium and Micro-sized Enterprises in Key Fields refer to "hardcore technology" small, medium and micro-sized enterprises or small and micro-sized enterprises of top 10 high-end, precision and advanced industries. Priorities will be given to support National High-tech Enterprises, Zhongguancun High and New Technology Enterprises, and Beijing Intellectual Property Pilot Demonstrative Enterprises, and local enterprises endorsed by the municipal development capital or funds for SMEs.
- Enterprises may complete online pilot application at "Beijing Comprehensive Financial Services for Small and Micro-sized Enterprises" (www.smeservice.com), and the final underwritten enterprises and patents will be determined after the system's preliminary examination and the experts' assessment. Subsequently, the pilot insurers will provide the insurance policy according to the final assessment results.
- Application form for pilot intellectual property insurance in Beijing, information form of insured patents, patent insurance application form and photocopy of the insurance policy, statement by co-owner or licensor; where pilot insurance company is entrusted to apply, letter of approval for entrusted application and receipt shall be submitted.
- After the enterprise submits the documents for premium subsidy application, Zhongguancun Intellectual Property Promotion Center will audit the documents, and the audit results will be made public at http://zscqj.beijing.gov.cn/ and the website of the Zhongguancun Intellectual Property Promotion Center for at least 5 working days.
- After the results are made public and are not challenged, relevant applicant will be notified to receive the subsidy, and the subsidy funds will be appropriated to the applicant in the form of telegraphic transfer or cheque. Within the prescribed period, the applicant shall transact the application procedures and provide corresponding notes according to requirements.
In 2020, a total of 142 enterprises in Beijing participated in the pilot insurance, with 1,660 patents insured, and Beijing Municipal Intellectual Property Office provided premium support of CNY 19 million, covering 15 key sectors including intelligent manufacturing, intelligent equipment, information technology, artificial intelligence, biotechnology, medicine and health, and energy conservation and environmental protection, etc. and the total sum insured hit CNY 1.659 billion. Assuming that Company A is a pilot insured enterprise and plans to insure the "Patent Guard Insurance Product", the government will provide Company A with 100% subsidy as Company A applies for the first time.
Not long after that, Company B was suspected of infringing upon rights of Company A's insured patent. Company A reported this case to the insurance company and decided to file a lawsuit against Company B. The insurance company provided a list of lawyers for Company A to choose from and served as the agent for such infringement case. Before the lawsuit, Company A spent CNY 40,000 of evidence purchase fee, CNY 100,000 of investigation fee, and CNY 80,000 of legal proceedings fee. After Company A received the letter of notice on acceptance of the case, the insurer made compensation for the aforesaid fees within the quota limit. Then, the defendant filed a request for invalidating the patent, and the insurance company, within the quota limit, made compensation for total investigation fee and legal proceedings fee of CNY 80,000 involved in invalid lawsuit case. In the end, Company A won the lawsuit and Company B was sentenced to indemnify Company A for a loss of CNY 250,000, but Company B was insolvent. According to the court decision, the insurance company was sentenced to first indemnify Company A for the direct loss caused by infringement, and then claim for compensation from the defendant within the scope of indemnification.
