Located adjacent to the port at Beijing Capital International Airport, the German Heide Apotheke (HA) Pharmacy is the city's first self-pickup cross-border e-commerce store. It opened in January this year and offers over 300 German medicines in six different categories. By taking advantage of the offline self-pickup policy for cross-border e-commerce in the comprehensive bonded zone and adopting two operation models (bonded stock and direct delivery from Germany), the pharmacy enables consumers' customs clearance and pick-up within just three minutes of an order being placed with the physical store. Goods can be couriered to consumers' homes on the same day in the fastest case.

It is the only cross-border e-commerce store in China that sells pharmaceutical products. In accordance with the provisions of relevant Chinese laws and regulations, drugs, medical devices, special foods, and more were previously subject to import approval. However, consumer demand for overseas medical commodities is very strong. Most consumers purchase overseas medical commodities via direct delivery from overseas vendors or through Daigou (a form of surrogate shopping in China for purchasing commodities directly from duty free shops and foreign countries). Consumers may be exposed to various risks such as difficult commodity traceability, poor transportation and storage conditions, and lack of quality supervision. With the construction of a pharmaceutical bonded warehouse, consumers now have access to safer over-the-counter medicines at lower prices in a shorter time. This is all attributed to the pilot cross-border e-commerce sales of pharmaceutical products, which was first launched in the Tianzhu Comprehensive Bonded Zone.
