Mayor Chen Jining

Mr. Chen Jining, born in Lishu County Jilin Province, in February 1964, of the Han Nationality, joined the Communist Party of China in June 1984, and began his career in April 1998. He is a doctor of engineering, professor, and obtained his master's degree in civil and environmental engineering from the Imperial College London. He is currently a member of the 19th CPC Central Committee, a member of the 13th National People's Congress, Deputy Secretary of the CPC Beijing Municipal Committee, Mayor of the People's Government of Beijing Municipality, Secretary of the CPC Leadership Group of the People's Government of Beijing Municipality, Executive President and Deputy Secretary of the CPC Leadership Group of the Beijing Organising Committee for the 2022 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.

Responsibilities: Mr. Chen Jining oversees the overall work of the municipal government and is in charge of planning and auditing.

The previous leadership positions he held include:

Deputy Dean and Dean at the Department of Environmental Science and Environmental Engineering, Tsinghua University;

Vice President, Executive Vice President (director-general level) and President (vice-ministerial level), Tsinghua University;

Minister and Secretary of the CPC Leadership Group, Ministry of Environmental Protection;

Deputy Secretary of the CPC Beijing Municipal Committee, Vice Mayor and Acting Mayor of the People's Government of Beijing Municipality.
