The Black Pearl Restaurant Guide is a cuisine list for Chinese people. As a local reference to measure up to the Michelin Guide, it puts more effort on demonstrating the confidence of Chinese people in their own food culture, and strives to promote the inheritance of Chinese food culture and amplify the influence of such culture in the world.
This year, 296 diamond-level restaurants made their way into the 2021 Black Pearl Restaurant Guide, including 13 three-diamond ones, 65 two-diamond ones, and 218 one-diamond ones. In terms of the variety of cuisines, the restaurants on the list cover 39 categories, including Chaozhou cuisine, Cantonese cuisine, Yunnan-Guizhou cuisine, Northwest cuisine, Anhui cuisine and Fujian cuisine, etc.; in addition to local delicacies in China, the list also covers Western cuisine, Japanese cuisine, Southeast Asian cuisine and other foreign cuisines. From a city perspective, it covers the restaurants in 22 domestic cities including Beijing, Shanghai and Yangzhou, and 3 overseas cities, namely, Bangkok, Singapore and Tokyo.
This year, 35 restaurants in Beijing were selected by the 2021 Black Pearl Restaurant Guide, with 6 getting two diamonds and 29 receiving one diamond. These restaurants cover Chinese cuisines such as Cantonese cuisine, Beijing-Shandong cuisine, Jiangsu-Zhejiang cuisine, and foreign cuisines like Japanese cuisine, Italian cuisine and French cuisine.
