The brand new Michelin Guide Beijing 2023 selection was unveiled on December 21 through an online ceremony, adding four one-star restaurants to the capital's world-class dining scene.
It highlighted two three-Michelin Star establishments, three two-Michelin Stars, 31 one-Michelin Stars, 19 Bib Gourmands as well as 53 Selected restaurants. Three hospitality talents received Michelin special awards, including the Michelin Sommelier Award, a recognition presented in Beijing for the first time.
Gwendal Poullennec, the international director of the Michelin Guides, acknowledged the commitment and dedication of the industry to welcoming guests, running restaurants, managing teams, and keeping the food industry alive despite recent challenges.
"The Michelin Guide team has been very impressed by the quality of the culinary propositions that Beijing has continued to create. Whether it is to enjoy popular or traditional regional Chinese cuisines, or experience international or very innovative offers, gourmets can find in Beijing a rare gastronomic kaleidoscope. This is of course proudly and boldly shaped by chefs and teams whose skills, passion and commitment are outstanding and always improving," Poullennec said.
The two restaurants which were awarded three Stars in the last edition — vegetarian restaurant King's Joy and Taizhou cuisine restaurant Xin Rong Ji (Xinyuan South Road) — maintain the highest distinction for another year in the 2023 edition.
Chao Shang Chao, Jingji and Shanghai Cuisine maintained Two Michelin Stars, shedding a special light on outstandingly interpreted Teochew, Beijing and Shanghai cuisines.
With the Michelin Green Star, the Michelin Guide is committed to encouraging efforts toward sustainable gastronomy in the hospitality industry. By promoting eco-friendly role models, it raises awareness among chefs and restaurateurs, as well as the general public.
Restaurant King's Joy, which takes sustainable actions in the daily practice of their profession, was awarded the Michelin Green Star once more for its thoughtfully crafted dishes with fruits and vegetables from organic farms, recycling and ban on the use of disposable items, and advocacy towards a sustainable lifestyle in the neighborhood.
