The Capital Institute of Science and Technology Development Strategy also unveiled the Capital Sci-tech Innovation and Development Index 2022, with several indicators showing the strong momentum of Beijing's sci-tech development. Beijing witnessed substantial growth of the sci-tech index from 2012 to 2021 and its overall score rose from 98.73 in 2012 to 176.25 in 2021, an increase of 78.5 percent. Since 2012, the city has made sustained progress in innovation and significantly accelerated its development toward a sci-tech innovation center, with a more evident trend of innovation-driven high-quality development.

Since 2012, Beijing has maintained strong growth momentum in all the four first-level indicators, namely innovation resources, environment, services and performance, with its scores in these four indexes increasing by 34.63 percent, 49.94 percent, 79.91 percent and 107.39 percent respectively. In general, the index scores of innovation resources and environment have grown steadily, while innovation services and performance, with the rapid rise in their index scores, have become the main source of the increase in the capital's overall sci-tech index score. In particular, the innovation performance index score saw a 13.29 percent year-on-year increase in 2021, the highest increase in the past 10 years.
