On February 13, the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Economy and Information Technology released the White Paper on Beijing's Development of the AI Industry in 2022 at the Beijing Artificial Intelligence Industry Innovation and Development Conference.

Beijing continues to maintain its leading position in the artificial intelligence (AI) industry. As of October 2022, Beijing had been home to 1,048 core AI firms which accounted for 29 percent of the national total, ranking first in the country. With a well-established complete AI industrial chain, the city's core area had also boasted the top industrial agglomeration capacity in China. In addition, Beijing ranked first nationwide in terms of the number of published papers on AI, the number of outstanding innovation-oriented projects approved by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, and the development of AI computing power.

It is learned that Beijing Municipality is ahead of other regions in government data accessibility. A total of 15,880 data sets from 115 government agencies at district and municipality levels have been unconditionally accessible, covering a variety of areas such as guidance on public services, finance and taxation, and urban governance.

Moreover, Beijing have made significant progress in its development as an AI innovative development pilot zone. Digital humans, intelligent robots and other technologies were successfully applied during the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics. "Smart city brain" planning has been commenced or completed in a lot of districts, including Haidian District, Chaoyang District, Xicheng District, Changping District and Tongzhou District. Beijing has entered the smart city 2.0 stage featuring the application of AI technologies in all scenerios, with autonomous driving services stepping from demonstration-oriented operation into the new stage of pilot commercialization.
